5 tips for you with blonde hair!
Blonde hair is often brittle and needs a little extra TLC, in this blog post we explain why and share tips on how to get stronger and shinier blonde hair .
Our hair is mainly made up of a protein, which gives the hair its structure, shape and strength. Blonde hair has mostly undergone a lightening treatment to reach its lightness level and this affects the quality of the hair. The oxidation process that occurs during lightening from, for example, bleaching, coloring and the sun not only makes the hair lighter but it also opens up and damages the hair's cuticle, which contributes to the hair losing moisture and protein to a certain extent. This in turn makes the hair more brittle and more sensitive.
It is often said that damaged hair cannot be repaired, but it can be repaired temporarily, which is why it is extra important to care for blonde (brittle & damaged) hair regularly. To get the full effect, it should be done when the hair is damp, then the product has a greater chance of entering the hair and filling the damaged areas with proteins and moisture. When the hair is dry, it is not as permeable and therefore cannot absorb nutrients and rebuilding substances in the same way. Therefore, nourishing leave-in products should preferably be applied to damp hair, it gives shine even when the hair has dried.

5 TIPS ON HOW TO BEST TAKE CARE OF YOUR BLONDE HAIR
-
Do a detox
Blonde hair benefits from regular detox treatment. Because the hair's cuticle is damaged, it absorbs air pollution and styling product residue more easily, which can dull the color on blonde hair and give it a yellower and slightly dull tone, so detoxing and deep-cleaning your hair regularly makes a big difference. It also prepares your hair to be more easily replenished with good things, like protein and moisture. Our Alg In Treatment is a really super cleanser and we recommend doing it every six weeks.
-
Fill up on proteins
Fill up on new proteins, as they are the building blocks of hair, helping your hair become stronger and fuller. Alg In Treatment is not only a detox treatment, but thanks to its fantastic algae, it is also packed with proteins, so it is suitable as both a detox treatment and a protein treatment. We usually say that Alg In Treatment is a bit like nature's Olaplex, for those of you who know that product. Brun's silver mask is also a real protein bomb with extra keratin in it, it is perfect for strengthening your hair with more regularly, for example every other week. For a daily supply of protein, we recommend Protein Spray from Less is More , it is applied to towel-dried hair and you can also boost your hair with it between washing sessions.
-
Use silver products
To keep yellow tones from air pollution, food odors, etc. away from your blonde hair, we at Green Heads recommend using silver products. They often contain a small amount of purple pigment to balance out your blonde shade. We have two different series for this area of use in our webshop - Bruns silver ( shampoo , conditioner , mask ) and Oway Hblond ( shampoo , mask ). They counteract yellow tones and give the hair a clear blonde tone, provided that the hair is light enough to begin with. The best effect is achieved by letting both shampoo and conditioner work in the hair for about 10 minutes each. One tip is to make sure that the hair is thoroughly towel-dried before application. In addition to their toning effect, our silver products are also caring and restorative.

Protect your hair from the sun
Blonde hair is extra sensitive to the sun because the sun also exposes the hair to oxidation. Therefore, it is important to protect not only the skin but also the hair when the sun is at its strongest. Feel free to use a hat, cap, scarf or similar. Another tip is to add leave-in products to damp hair that fill in and protect the brittle and broken or to go even further and wear a hair mask throughout the day.
-
Protect your hair from pool water
Blonde hair is also extra sensitive to pool water because the cuticle is open and the hair is extra porous, it easily absorbs chlorine and salt, and if you're unlucky you can get a green tint in your blonde hair. In that case, the most effective protection is to simply not dip your hair, or to find a really nice swimming cap. But above all, make sure to strengthen your hair between dips and before the pool season with detox, protein and moisturizing treatments.
Generally speaking, blonde and brittle hair needs more protein than moisture, but moisture is of course important too as it helps keep hair supple, protects and extends the life of the hair. If you are curious about which products we recommend for blonde hair, you can find them here!
And be careful not to get too much protein in your hair. Your hair will feel brittle, fragile and break easily. Your hair may lack shine, become dry and brittle. If you have too much protein in your hair, you need to add moisture. Balance is important, just like with everything else in life <3
