Hair cakes – climate-smart hair wash

A few years ago, shampoo bars started being sold in various places as a popular trend, but now we know that they are here to stay. The range is growing and there are many varieties that are at least as good for the hair as liquid shampoo.

Wash your hair with shampoo bars and conditioner bars

Shampoo and conditioner bars are hair care in solid form. They consist primarily of caring oils and various active ingredients, but also mild detergent surfactants which contribute to a lovely cleansing lather. Today, there are several different brands on the market and the brand we at Green Heads have chosen to work with, and sell, is Grön Lycka. It is important not to mix shampoo bars with shampoo soap, as the latter has a higher pH value. If you use a shampoo soap, an acid rinse or conditioner is required, which is therefore not necessary if you wash your hair with a shampoo bar.

Our shampoo and conditioner bars are suitable for different types of hair, here you can read more about each bar. For example, you will find shampoo for dry hair, for fine hair, for sensitive scalp - we think there is something for everyone.

How to use shampoo cake

Shampoo bars work just like regular liquid shampoo, but you apply it like a bar of soap. That is, you massage/rub it lightly into the hair and scalp. To create a rich, soft lather, first wet the shampoo bar and rub it between your hands, then run it over your hair.

  1. Make sure to wet your hair thoroughly.
  2. Then massage the hair with the shampoo bar until a lather forms.
  3. When you have lather all over your hair, rinse, repeat if necessary.
  4. If you need conditioner, apply it to the wet lengths.
  5. Leave on for an extra minute if your hair needs a little extra TLC, rinse thoroughly

4 really good things about shampoo and conditioner bars from an environmental point of view

  • They are free from water, i.e. a truly climate-friendly alternative.
  • They are easy to transport and take up little space.
  • They are very generous as they are free of water and concentrated.
  • It's a zero waste product, meaning products that don't leave behind packaging waste in the form of plastic bottles, which we think is great.
  • They cannot be overdosed or wasted like a liquid product.

It may take a few tries before you get the right cut, so don't give up, most people who have tried it are sold after a couple of times :) And remember that it must be placed on a soap dish with a drain to dry properly between uses.

It is important not to confuse shampoo bars with shampoo soap, as the latter has a higher pH value. If you use a shampoo soap, an acid rinse or conditioner is required, which is not necessary if you wash your hair with a shampoo bar.
