Styling tips for 4 hairstyles

Styling tips! 4 hairstyles to get inspiration from.

How should I style my hair? Is one of the most common questions we hairdressers get. Even if you are used to styling your own hair, your hair quality suddenly changes or you change your hairstyle and need to resort to new methods. It is easy to get stuck in the “same old routine”. Sometimes we need to try new products and learn new ways to style our hair. Here are 4 styling tips that are sure to keep you in style.

When styling your hair, there are some general tips that are important to keep in mind to achieve the desired result:

Wash your hair properly – It all starts with a good hair wash. Choose shampoo and conditioner according to your needs. Wash your hair twice with shampoo to get your hair completely clean of styling residue and grease. Only use conditioner on the ends and lengths so it doesn't weigh down the hair. Always finish with cool water to reseal the hair strands. Poorly washed hair is difficult to style.

Use the right hairbrush – Use the right brush for the purpose, e.g. a straightening brush that doesn't damage the hair, a round brush with the right size for blow-drying depending on whether you want maximum volume or more shape, e.g. curls, etc. A wide-toothed comb is good for untangling curls.

Use your heat tools correctly – If you are going to style your hair with a blow dryer or other heat tools, it is important to use your tool correctly. Use a blow dryer with heat control so that it does not get too hot but has good airflow so that it gets the job done. Always finish with cold air to lock the shape. You may also need the right nozzles for the blow dryer, such as to direct the air or a diffuser to “lift” curls. The same applies to heat tools such as straighteners and curling irons, they should preferably not be hotter than 185 degrees as hair can be burned if the heat is too high and the wrong technique is used.

The right products for your hair – To achieve a really stylish styling, you need styling products. When blow-drying and using heat tools, you need to protect your hair from the heat with a heat protectant, dry ends and lengths may need leave-in and oil to become smoother and moisturized. If you want shine, add hair oil, and if you want a matte finish, you need products for that. Use just the right amount based on your hair's needs, too much or the wrong product can make your hair heavy and look greasy. Both gel and creams can highlight curls and give hold, but it is your hair that determines which product is best suited for each styling. You can ask your hairdresser for advice here, but it is also important to try out what you like and need.

Here we have described how to style 4 different hairstyles in 10 easy steps.

Blow Dry

This blow dry has a slight volume and soft bend at the ends. It gives a classic and stylish look that is suitable for both everyday and party. Both hair color and cut look fresher with a good blow dry and who doesn't like having their hair blow dried like that?
How to:

  1. Apply 1-2 pumps of Leave-in Balm to the lengths for protection and priming.
  2. Gently brush out the hair with a detangling brush .
  3. Spray 3-4 times with Sea Salt Mist at the roots for root lift.
  4. Apply about 2-3 pumps of Blow Out Gel throughout your hair from root to tip for hold and heat protection.
  5. Blow dry your hair 80-90% dry without a brush.
  6. Put your upper hair up in a clip or with a silk tie, thinking that you are going to fasten up the part that would have been inside a crown.
  7. Then blow-dry sections of hair the same width as the round brush, taking too little rather than too much hair in each section. Tip! Use a large round brush if you want straight hair with volume. Use a smaller round brush for firmer curls.
  8. Blow-dry all the hair on the bottom section, focusing mostly on the length and the shape you want at the ends: Roll up horizontally and out vertically for more curl, or roll up and out horizontally for straight with a slight bend at the ends.
  9. When you blow-dry the hair in the upper part, above the crown line, lift the hair up where you want volume. Pull the brush straight up. Put the last powder on the bangs, roll outwards and finish with cold air. Note! Always point the nozzle diagonally towards the brush in the direction of the hair and not directly towards the brush, otherwise you can burn the hair and “ruffle” the cuticle!
  10. Let the hair cool completely, then gently brush into the shape you want and finish with a suitable hairspray for fixation.

Bouncy Curls

Natural curls always feel right and have been extra trendy in recent years. We have let go of the straightener and locked it in the cupboard, we don't want to straighten natural curls anymore and those who don't have natural curls struggle to make the styling look like natural curls. Styling natural curls is a whole science and can be done in several different ways. The important thing is not to force your curls too much, find one or two products that feel good in your hair and try out how much product is needed. Try different techniques, twist around your finger, blow dry with a diffuser, squeeze up and self-dry, etc. Here we have done longer hair with bouncy curls with a focus on definition in the finish.
How to:

  1. Apply Leave-In Balm and gently detangle your hair with a wide-toothed comb.
  2. Apply 2-3 pumps of Curl Cream depending on your preference.
  3. Dry gently by squeezing your hair with a soft towel .
  4. Divide your hair into 3 sections using clips or silk ties: top, middle and nape.
  5. Take one pump of Curl Cream and one pump of Hair Oil and mix in your hands. Add more if you feel like the product is running out of your hand. Always have product on hand.
  6. Twist finger-width passes in a backward direction, starting at the front and working backwards.
  7. Continue through all three sections.
  8. Let it dry for as long as you have time.
  9. Put a diffuser on your hair dryer and dry your hair by "hovering" the dryer over the curls and hair, don't use too much wind here.
  10. Let the hair cool before styling with extra Curl Cream and separating the curls.

Soft curls

Big soft curls with texture have been on trend for a while. It's a perfect way to bring out the shape and style of a cropped hairstyle like a mullet or wolf cut. It's a styling that gives extra attitude and is stylish in any situation. Here we've cut a longer version of the mullet, but the styling also works on a slightly cropped page.
How to:

  1. Apply 1-2 pumps of Leave-in Balm to towel-dried hair
  2. Carefully detangle your hair with a wide-toothed comb.
  3. Spray hair with 2-3 pumps of Sea Salt Mist for extra hold
  4. Distribute approximately 1 pump of Curl Cream evenly throughout your hair.
  5. Divide your hair into an upper and lower section.
  6. Take finger-width sections and twist, then twist them together two by two. Continue through the entire hair. Place the sections on the sides and at the nape of the neck downwards, but place the section on the top of the head forward.
  7. Use clips from By Barb to shape the bangs as you want.
  8. Let hair air dry to about 90% dry.
  9. Then blow-dry your hair gently with a diffuser against your head. Do not lift the curls.
  10. Finish with 1-2 pumps of Texture Cream that you squeeze through your hair and shape the curls for hold and definition.

Wrap dry

So to the minimalist styling that is perfect for highlighting a technical cut such as a bob. Wrap dry means that you blow dry the hair according to the shape of the head instead of lifting it for volume like in a blow dry. This means that you pull the hair in the direction it should fall after the cut and it gives a lighter and more natural volume.
How to:

  1. Apply 1-2 pumps of Leave-in Balm to towel-dried lengths.
  2. Gently brush out your hair.
  3. Apply 1-2 pumps of Blow Out Gel from root to tip. It's better to use too little than too much product, the hair should feel light, smooth but have some hold and heat protection.
  4. Blow dry your hair 50% dry without a brush.
  5. Separate the sides and top with clips.
  6. Blow-dry the hair at the nape of the neck downwards with the brush on top until dry. Shape the ends with a brush.
  7. Repeat the same method on the sides and neck. This can be done quickly and doesn't need to be as meticulous.
  8. Pull the hair on top forward with the brush while you blow-dry, and finally blow-dry the ends with the brush. Finish with cold air.
  9. If you need to, go over the lengths and any ends with a straightener to shape any loose ends.
  10. Finish with 1 pump of Texture Cream and lightly scrunch through hair to lift volume and shape the ends and bangs.

Summary

All hair is different and all styling requires different types of conditions. To achieve a good styling, you need to prepare yourself well, have the right heat tools, brushes and have products that suit your hair. Once you have that, just start practicing and testing your skills. When it comes to heat tools, it's a lot about technique, which direction you blow dry your hair for the most volume, for example. Becoming a specialist in your own hair is completely reasonable with a good plan and the right stuff. Good luck with your styling.
